Synopsis

What happens when Elphaba, the wicked witch of the west, procures the wrong spell and sends herself to a whole new world... and a whole new time?

It has been three years since Dorothy's trip to Oz, and life has returned to normal for the Ozian people... almost. Although Glinda doesn't know it, Elphaba's "death" was a trick. She and Fiyero are living together happily, caring for Nessarose (whose death was also staged) and running a secret rehabilitation program for depraved Animals. When Boq (the tin man) follows a decrepit old goat to Kiamo Ko, he makes the shocking discovery that Elphaba is still around. He gives her the Grimmerie, which Nessa promptly steals and attempts to make use of. Much to everyone's shock and dismay, the entire group of people in and around the castle are transported back in time to the way they were when they first attended Shiz. Unfortunately, they have also been taken from Oz, to a strange place called Paris. They find themselves in the coveted Box 5 during a performance of Faust starring Christine Daae... the Phantom of the Opera's wife.

Will Fiyero's love for Elphaba last through the changes that he sees in her and in Galinda? What will happen when he meets the much sought-after Christine. What happens when Madame Morrible and Madame Giry face off in a battle of wits versus magic. What of a family secret that has remained buried for 20 years, during which both Raoul and Fiyero have grown up far away, never knowing that they had a very close connection...

What of the "witch" herself? Will she discover love in the cold heart of the strange masked ghost in the opera house where she lands? Will his "love" for a certain young soprano change to a much deeper, much more realistic love of the equally scarred contralto? Or will they both run away or run to each other, desperate for a place of acceptance and peace?
